Renters’ Rights Bill: Tenants unaware of major reforms

Tenants remain unaware of the Renters’ Rights Bill despite the landmark legislation reaching its final stages this week.

Research from Housing Hand, the UK rental services provider, shows that  69% of private renters are unaware of the proposed Renters’ Rights Bill.

Meanwhile, 75% of renters said they don’t understand how the Renters’ Rights Bill may impact them

Housing Hand’s research also reveals that individuals feel overwhelmed (25%), uncertain (22%), anxious (21%) and scared (9%) when first looking for a home to rent. Just 5% report feeling confident and 2% knowledgeable, highlighting how much more support is required to ensure that every renter fully understands and enjoys their experience of renting a home, even before factoring in the impact of the proposed Renters’ Rights Bill.

Graham Hayward, MD of Housing Hand, comments: “This is the biggest change to the private rental sector in a generation and ensuring both landlords and tenants are prepared for the impact of the Renters’ Rights Bill is critical. It’s essential that all accommodation providers are engaged with to ensure a coordinated and clear response to the coming changes.”
